Alberobello
Also known as the “city of the Trulli”, Alberobello was named a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1996. It is an exceptional example of building built with prehystoric techniques and nowadays many trulli have survived intact and they are still today functional.
Specifically, a “Trullo” is a small limestone house with a typical conical roof, made with dry stone walls obtained from the processing of limestone boulders, collected in the nearby fields. In Alberobello there is the largest number of Trulli, but they are typical throughout Itria Valley and you can also find them in Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Cisternino and Fasano.
