Castel del Monte

Castel del Monte

It is one of the mysterious places in Italy and it’s an unmissable destination certainly. Built around 1240 by Frederick II, this castle is located in Andria, on top of an isolated hill. One side is dominated by the Murgia valley, the other gives a stunning view on the Adriatic Sea.

The castle is characterized by an unusual shape with an octagonal plan and octagonal towers at each towers. In 1996, UNESCO included Castel del Monte on their list of the World Heritage Sites for its universal and exceptional value, its architectural beauty and the mystery that still surrounds it.
